If someone made a statue of a mallard out of silver and it came to life; that would be the Silver Mallard! They are extremely rare, often resulting in rather incredible inbreeding. To combat these issues, we’ve outcrossed our line to some commercial layer ducks, resulting in ever so slightly bigger birds with MUCH better prolificacy and fertility rates.

What makes Silver Mallards unique?

 -New & rare color genetics: Possibly the first “recessive blue” or “self blue” genetics discovered in mallard derivative ducks, the gene that creates the “silver” in these ducks MAY actually be comparable to what is called “lavender” in chickens.

-Research opportunity: How does the “recessive blue” gene interact with other color genetics? What happens with it on an “extended black” base? Is it truly recessive, or incompletely dominant? So many questions that scream to be answered!!

 -Calm & Docile: You wouldn’t think it, given to how close they are to their wild mallard cousins but silver mallards are actually delightfully docile and easygoing, making them a pleasure to keep in backyard flocks and homesteads alike. Just keep in mind they can TOTALLY fly! (in complete control, like a fighter jet, not just aimless flapping like a chicken) So their calmness is good, because they just fly back home if they should wander too far.
